I'm no expert on computers. I'm looking to buy this Dell Inspiron Laptop because its the most affordable one that I can find. It starts at $499 and there are a number of upgrades that you can add to it. (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs) I'm just wondering what I should get and what I should avoid to get the best deal. I'm a just a student so I don't need anything too fancy, just something to type, and play music and videos for the most part. Thank you for your help.

  1. I use a Dell Inspiron 1501 as my laptop for school and I am semi happy with it. I use an auxiliary fan that plugs into a USB port to assist in keeping the battery and the case cool, well worth the $15 investment. The more school programs I add to it (Office, Adobe, ITunes, Etc) the slower it becomes. I regularly use a Reg Edit program as well as all the required maintenance Dell asks for.

I would not choose anything less than a Dual Core processor as well as 2 gig or more of Ram with a 250 gig hard drive, more hard drive space is needed if you get into videos, 500 gig would be about right for major video watching.

    Hope this helps!

  2. Then you should keep it stock just have least 2gb ram to keep things smooth and maybe a good amout of HDD space for music least 200gb

  3. In my opinion, I would buy a MAC book.  Mac Books are perfect for media, students, and anything else your interested in. Its great for fast web browsing and is very unlikely to get a virus, and you do not even have to download any virus detector program. Also, right now if you buy a MAC you get a free Ipod Touch(till sept. 15)

A great thing about mac is that you can run windows on it with a program called BootCamp. So you can have two in one! :)

I have a mac and sometimes when it does not support a certain program I just go to my Windows and download or open whatever I need on it. Than switch back to my mac when I want.

Mac Books also have a built in camera with a lot of affects. Fun :)

But when it gets down to school work it has just what you need.

    Bottom line-

Fun. Handy. Useful. Easy to use.

  4. That's the computer I have.  With shipping and handling and tax I ended up spending $569 on it.  It is a good computer.  I am also a student and it works for me.

  5. that laptop is nice and dell support has been wonder full to my family. My sister received  a new laptop when the damage was her fault. I little something to consider is if you want this computer to last a few years i would get a bigger hard drive and more ram. If you upgrade these key components your laptop will last about 5 years and will still be a good computer.
