In October 2008 I will be travelingto Japan. Is it worth buying a Sony Alpha camera over there compared to European prices?

eg. Sony Alpha 300 is about 400e and the Sony Alpha 700 about 1200e.

Thanks!

  1. You'll wish you'd bought it in your home country if and when the camera needs service. Your warranty will only be good in Japan so you'll have to send it back for warranty work.

You may also have to pay import taxes/duties on the camera when you return home.

  2. Maybe, but when if you ever need to use the warranty, you will wish you had purchased your camera nearer home.

  3. Echoing the other responses - you'll regret it if you need services.

Often the companies will outright refuse to do repairs in your home country even paying out-of-warranty rates.
