Buying a Tomtom Oversea's, will i be able to load my local maps?

I was looking at buying a Tomtom, but now that I'm going to Thailand on a holiday i figure i can buy it much cheaper there rather than here in Sydney Australia. If i buy a Tomtom over there will i be able to load it with the Latest Australian Maps?

I had problems when I visited usa, my tom tom had aus maps loaded and when I wanted to download us maps they wanted a lot of money I paid tom tom and the map would not burn to an sd card could not install in tom tom as the device did not have enought intrenal memoryso did money cold and still nothing
