Buying a barrel horse?

Question

I want to buy a barrel horse, I've been trying to train my own barrel horse but they're not build for it (Am. Saddlbred & Arabian) and now I'm just looking for one that I can compete on.

-I'm looking for a horse that can run 2-D or 3-D in the NBHA and be very competive locally. A horse with experience is desired, either gelding or mare, but I'd like it to be over 5 yrs old. I wouldn't like to spend over $4500 on him. Do you think this is too small of a budget for what I'm demanding?

-Also, I live in Iowa and wouldn't like to drive more then 4 hrs away to check out a horse. If I find a horse in Texas or New York do you think it would be wise to purchase him without seeing him in person?

-What about shipping the horse to me? Are there any reliable, resonably priced shippers that would do it for me?

-With gas prices so high is even worth competeing when pay-out may not be that great?

Well never buy a horse you can not ride ,see or have a vet ck on ,period

If your wanting a horse just for 2 d and 3 d You will can come arcross many

If you can Not ck out the horse in person

Maybe you can find a nice Broke x reining horse or a cutter that just did not make the grade and do it your self

Just take a pro with you ,,

Your very smart about looking for one

NEVER NEVER BUY A horse Especially a barrel horse with out ridding it

And having Your own Vet ,,

So Try looking in your state and look under some others

sorry hun but you will never find a 2d or 3d horse for 4500.00 dollars. we have a quarter horse that is 1 D and my bro is asking 30,000 for him. but hes 7 now and has been to the NBHA world show 5 times. good luck.
