  1. If you can save about 200.00 more dollars, you could get a very nice Samsung 42" plasma from Frys.com or if you have a Fry's Electronic store in your area.  They always have great deals on 42" plasmas for around 1,000 but I really like the Samsung picture.  It closely matches the Pioneer which costs 3,500

Fry's always has open box models fro even cheaper also, but if wanting new it will cost you 1,000-1,200 for a 42"

  5. I guess if you want a plasma, you start with ignoring the recommendations you've received for LCDs. The very best plasma you can get for your money, in BOTH performance and reliability, is the Panasonic 37" Viera plasma display, e.g., TH-37PH10UK, for around $800, depending on where you buy it. Unless you go for a screen size at least 46"-50", you will never be able to tell the difference from 1080p.

BTW, the only maker of a 32" plasma is Vizio, and they are third tier, disposable junk TVs, whether plasma or LCD, as is the suggested Dynex. Read this! http://www.hdguru.com/your-new-flat-disp...  Don't buy cheap c**p, or daddy will have the last laugh!

Should you decide on a LCD screen, you can make your budget easily with one of three best 32" LCDs, again for BOTH performance and reliability, Panasonic Viera, Sony Bravia, or Toshiba Regza. Again, in this small screen size, 720p/1080i is more than satisfactory for what you want. And you choice of an HDTV has nothing to do with your buying a low grade home theater system, just because it's advertised to have high wattage. LOL

  6. Samsung's PN42A450 is a nice TV for around $850.

Quick question - does it need to be plasma or can it be LCD?  LCD gives you a lot more options because there are a lot of LCD manufacturers.

Once you know what you want, this is a good site where you can enter your item and how much you want to pay.  They do the shopping for you and recommend places to buy it online for your price.
