Iam planning to buy a brand new 2008 honda civic coupe DX, i found a dealer that has a few in stock and one of them is Alabaster Silver Metallic color just what i wanted. The price tag on it is a little over $15,000 but iam gona try and lower that. I called them for a quote and had this lady tell me that the DX model dont have A/C or radio, i lied to her and said i was a automotive technition and that i find it hard to belive that it dont come with A/C she told me she would call back and never did lol I wonder why haha. Iam 19 years of age and will be attending college in fall so iam looking for a reliable car within my budget and all that extra stuff does not intrest me in any way. I have very limited credit history, so my intrest will most likely be 14% which iam also gona try to lower. I got a stedy job making around $1300 a month so finance is my way to go. Could someone please give me some edvice on how to use dealers strategy against them, cause i know they are a bunch of liers.

  1. The best source of info is the Internet. You can find out about prices and option packages such as AC etc. You can access dealer prices to compare. compare similar cars from other manufactures. Find your own financing. Don't use the dealer financing, unless it's a zero percent deal. They are often marked up. Do not take a loan at 14% It will kill you. Find a bank that will work with you. You may be better off buying a used car. Your payments will be lower. I buy used cars from elderly people in private sales. Their cars are well maintained and they tend to have low miles. Often when an elderly person dies the spouse or the family sell a great car because they have no use for it. Do your homework and know the correct price for the car that you are looking at before you try to negociate a price. The more you know the more efective a negociator you will be.

  2. 14%?  That's ridiculous - especially at today's interest rates.  Shop around for financing - you don't have to use the dealership's finance.

  4. Actually the dx model does NOT come with a/c or a radio unless you opt for them and pay more. lol  You should double check with them cuz I just bought a 2008 civic si  (alabaster silver metallic by the way) and I got 2.9% APR fixed for the entire loan. That was a deal they were running on all the civics until July if you financed through Honda. That could save you alot of money. Check this website cuz it might depend on your area.

When bargaining with the dealership, just remember that most ad on's (like extended warranty) are way too overpriced at the dealership. Look up the civic's msrp which is the price you would most likely see them sell the car for. Then look up the invoice price, the price the dealer payed for. That way you can know how low you can get them to go. But just be aware that you can even pay less than the dealerships invoice. Its kind of complicated, but they make money on the front end, and on the back end as well (kick backs from honda if they make sell quotes, etc....). Tell them what you want to pay totally for the car, and stay away from the "how much do you want to pay a month" game. Just let them know you want to be dealt with straight forward and tell them you are going to leave and go to another dealership if you feel they are starting to play any games. Be willing to walk away. Make sure you see every single little stupid thing you are paying for BEFORE signing the paperwork. Don't get caught paying for extra stuff you didnt know about.
