Buying a car need insurance help..?

ok. so heres the deal. im buying a used car with about 150K miles on it and its a '93 yr model. im 18 years old, and i only had my license for about a month. i need to know how much insurance is for someone my age and does the car being old and having a lot of milage on it effect the price of insurance? i want to get off my dad's insurance and have it on my own, cuz he wont tell me anything, he told me that i have to put like $2000 down just to get insurance....help please!!

  1. It will likely be expensive. You have to call several insurance companies to get quotes though. Be honest with them to if you expect an acurate quote.


  2. the age of the car and mileage will not affect the price if you are only getting liability (which on a 93 model I assume you are).  what WILL affect the price is your age, driving experience and driving record abnd the liability limits you choose.   being 18 with only 1 month driving experience you are an inexperienced operator and will be surcharged as such.  you are looking a a high downpayment (i would guess 200-300) and monthly payment of about the same.

To start, mileage normally doesn't affect the price of insurance unless to are thinking of putting full coverage on the car.  Being 18 you will need a sizable down-payment and most likely pay in the range of $125-$200 a month depending on where you live. I strongly recommend taking defensive driving or going to a driving school, the cost of classes will be offset by the reduced insurance price. Good luck.
