Question:

Buying a car seat and weight?

My son is growing like a weed so I am already looking into the next size up car seat, one that will hopefully be with him until 4 or 5 years old, then we'd buy a booster sear.

My question is what weight limit should I be looking into buying?

40 lbs hardly seems enough, 100 lbs seem excessive....the ones up to 40 lbs cost under $100 and the ones that have more of a weight of more cost close to $200. We need two....

so what do I need to look for in the next car seat?

  1. Britax all the way

    definitely look into those !!

  2. I have a Britax and it was $200 off eBay.  I think its weight limit is 60 lbs.  I think with a 40 lb one you MIGHT be able to make it to 4 years old, but thats not a guarantee.  You should probably get a 60 lb one that one would definitely keep them until they are 4 or 5.  My 3 year old neice is already in a highback booster seat, so you could get a 40 lbs one and then get them a highback booster seat when they outgrow that one.  I have to say, car seat shopping is a HEADACHE lol

  3. If I were you I'd get an Evenflo brand, they have car seats that sit forward facing that are from 30-80 pounds. (I have one, so I know!). Evenflo is one of the best brands you can get, I swear by it. It is the only baby gear brand I use and it is less than the other brands, but it is well made enough that it lasts. I am currently using an Evenflo that I bought for my first child with my second. We have 2 cars bec. both of us pick up and transport the kids. So we have a booster and a carseat in both vehicles. All 4 are evenflo. Two of them are second hand. They are great.

  4. Check the DMV for the standards in your area to be sure that you are getting one that will hold enough weight. The car seat my husband and I picked for our daughter is a Graco - Nautilus 3-in-1 MultiUse Car Seat, Bravo it's around $140 and holds up to 100lbs but it meets all our states standards and then some and since we aren't sure where we could be next year because of my husbands work it should meet the standard of most other states too. Also check with CPSC for product recalls to make sure the one you choose is safe their website is

  5. I have 2 Britax car seats. Both go up to 65 pounds.

The next best with a better price is the Evenflo Triumph.

I would look into any of these.

I switched my son to the rear facing convertible (Britax Boulevard) around 6 months. He's now 2 years and still sits comfortably in his seats. I've also put my nephews in them and they sit well, too. Plus the straps were easy to adjust for them since they are older.

I highly recommend the Britax car seats.
