Buying a dog in Lima, Peru?

Question

I am a foreigner, moving to Lima. I want to get a dog for protection & companionship. I'd rather adopt, so this is just me scoping out my options if I can't find one at a shelter.

My question is: Can I buy dogs/puppies from pet stores? Or must I find a breeder?

Please don't buy them in a pet store, those puppies or grown dogs are not healthy. Get in touch with the Peruvian Kennel Club, they will get you in contact with several serious breeders who will sell you a dog with its corresponding papers.

I am also a foreigner living in Peru, I brought my Yorkshires from the UK but bought two dams locally. Both are of excellent breed, their Pedigree is great and more so I would say far better than I ever expected. There is a lady who is the owner of Shaman&Megan Kennel, she breeds excellent dogs and she is also an International Judge for the Kennel Club in Europe. Sorry I don't have her phone number but the Kennel Club will provide it if you call them.

EDIT: I was forgetting but this lady who I mentioned can also get you a good puppy to adopt if that is what you want, she has many that have been left behind by their owners, she cares for them and finds them good homes and all for free.

You can buy from pet stores and from breeders, it's up to you. there's actually a pet store at "Jockey Plaza", the largest mall in Lima, right at the entrance to the Ripley. If you want to adopt, check out the classifieds for EL Comercio newspaper or ask around between your friends. There's always somebody who's dog got pregnant and they want to give away the puppies.
