I want to buy a giftcard for myself so i dont need to carry a huge amount of cash in my pocket. Would it be weird to ask for one at a spa? If so how should i ask the manager?

  1. I think that is a bad idea.  How much money does it cost to have a day at the spa?  If you're worried about having a large amount of cash on you, you can always keep your money in a bank account and pay with your check card or credit card (and pay the credit card balance when it comes in to avoid 100% of the interest charges)

Also: I want to say that the only rationale I can see for doing this is to somehow be trying to justify spending (a large) amount of money on yourself- its a lot easier to hand over a gift card and deduct from its balance than to fork over cash--psychologically speaking.

  2. I know some spas have gift cards, so ask.  I don't think it sounds weird, especially with you stating you don't want to carry around a lot of cash.  A good idea.  And besides, who's going to know you bought the card for yourself anyway?

  3. Do you have a bank account?  If so, get a debit card.

If you don't have a bank account, consider getting a Visa gift card as this will not limit you to spending money at the spa.  Also, if you put all your money into a spa gift card and the spa goes out of business, you will lose your money.

Another thing to consider: gift cards from smaller places will tend to have fees built into them for not using them.  Check the fine print before buying.

  4. In this day and age when everyone is worried about carrying large sums of money with them, the only logical answer to this question would be to simply ask yourself which would you prefer to use for yourself.  Everyone is going to have a different answer and the only one that can answer this question is you.  Personally I have a debit card from my bank, which protects my money because if my card is ever lost or stolen, my money is insured and I can recover what was lost.  With gift cards, usually if you loose it, thats it, you just lost everything that was on it.  Certain gift cards require pin numbers and you can claim it lost and reclaim a new one, but these are few and far between.  Hope this helps you out.

    Cheers
