Buying a laptop in the US ??

Question

Okay, well lets get one thing straight right now.. I live in Canada. If you have noticed a few of my other questions you'll know right now I'm looking for a laptop.. Well, the other day my dad suggested getting on from the United States. Only we aren't too sure about that..

I'm pretty sure you're allowed to do that, right?

Another question is, if I CAN bring a laptop over the border, is it really worth paying the duty on it or should I just get one from here in Canada?

& also, what would I need to do when I want to get wireless internet?

I already get internet from Shaw only it's not wireless because its a desktop.

Please help, I really have no idea what I'm talking about. :P And I hope this question makes sense. :/

You would notice that there are lots of travellers with laptops...do you think we all pay duty? You can bring it over dude, without any cost to yourself.

So go online and compare prices...see if it is worth the cost of travel to get one...or you can just have it shipped (factor in the cost of shipping with what you would pay in Canada).

Also think about tech support if something goes wrong...usually Canada is included in this service.

To get wireless you need a laptop with a wireless modem (standard these days) and a router.

iMac computers are the best! buy one of those

and then u need to get a wireless router like linksys or motorolla so you can have internet access anywhere in your house

Hello I am looking at buying in the US as well...when on sale you can save a lot of money. I found the best place to buy is BEST BUY. When buying a laptop in the US the manufacture warranty becomes void when you cross the boarder. But with Best buy you can buy an extended warranty that covers anything and allows you to get a replacement battery at any time during the duration of the warranty. This warranty is worldwide.With regards to crossing the boarder they wont know that you bought it there if you dont mention it. Hope this helped!
