  1. Stop! Before you go into a dealership do some research. Why are you buying new? Do you want to lease or buy? Used is a lot better deal. Be careful of dealer retail prices. There are tons of books available to help you get a GREAT deal on a new car or truck. Have you thought of buying from a private party at all?

  2. is the gas mileage ok? is it expensive to fill up the tank? eco-friendly?

  3. Most important- you should do some independent research on cars and determine what options you have and KNOW what you want.  If you go in there all empty of ideas, you could leave with all sorts of additional things you dont want or need.  Second, you need to test drive the car and make sure it feels good to you; try out everything and see how it feels.  I had my eye on this very nice car. I did all my homework to make sure it has all the basic stuff (power steering, power windows, A/C, automatic transmission, anti-lock breaks...) and I liked it.  Then I got in the car to test drive... and my head was brushing the roof.  Needless to say, that killed my excitement.

And dont forget gas mileage, I recommend looking for at least 25 mpg highway.

  4. I guess you should also check insurance quotes for the car before buying one, for example here: http://autoinsurance.maclenet.com

  5. All these guys up here are right with the questions you should ask.  Just don't let them pressure you into buying the same day you go in there.  Dealers are desperate to sell cars for a comission and they will hammer you down until you walk out of ther with a car.  Some will even let you drive the car home for a test drive and bring it back the next day so you'll get really excited and buy the car.

Good luck and have fun driving.

Pd: Another tip, You'll pay a higher insurance if you buy a sport car.

  6. first look like ur not interested in the car that much...dont make a big deal

the sticker price is the "recomended" price...so go 5-6k lower and meat him in the middle, have a price in your head of the MAX you will pay and NEVER pass it...they will tell you "whats 20 dollars a month more?" well that 20 dollars adds up with insurance

before even talking about the price ask about the factory waranty (100k/5 years ect) and dont get extra warenty if its a new car...it already comes with a good one.

take a pen and notepad and write down the prices down...act like you can get a better deal somewhere else..take some snacks becasue if you want a good deal, you have to wait them out,

another good tip is buying a car in the end of the month...they want to sell as much in the end so they can have high numbers for the month.

if you feel like hes not being fair and starts to talk "slick" walk away..hes playing you and thinks your another sucker he can rip off...then he will probably see you mean bussiness and lower the price even more...thats what i did and got a great deal

good luck and remember you dont want to be stuck with a bad deal for 5 years

  7. Before shopping for a vehicle... go to http://www.ethicalcarsalesman.com/ and print a copy of the Haggle-Free Dealer worksheet. This will get you to their best price with out all of the negotiations. The key is to make sure the saleman knows you are considering two other vehicles (the worksheet has room for three). He will get to his best price a lot faster this way.

  8. First, do your homework ahead of time.  Check out:

    www.fueleconomy.gov

    www.crashtest.com

for fuel economy ratings and safety ratings.  Also consult Edmonds.com to see what prices people are actually paying for the car you're wanting to buy.   If you're trading a car in, you can look up an expected trade in value for that as well.

Also, shop around for financing.  Your own bank may do you better than the dealership's preferred financing.

Basically, it's best to have most of your questions answered before you visit a dealer.  If you're unsure of something, you'll probably be taken advantage of.  The internet is a great tool.  Use it to your best advantage.

  9. The most important thing is the warranty, what does it cover and for how long . How much do you have to put down, what are your monthly payments going to cost you? And always shop around for the best deal and compare what your getting for your money. Good Luck!
