Hi

I found a great deal in a brand new inventory home in texas. I was able to have them bring the price down from $350,000 to $275,000. It is a beautiful 5 bedroom and four full bath and media room and game room. A study and a big back yard.

the house is upgraded about $40,000.

But the dumb two car garage has a support beam in front so my car wont even fit.

should I let go of my hose that I love for the fact that the car will never fit....

  1. No! definatly keep the house!! it sounds amazing. just remodel the garage or park ur car in the driveway and use the garage for storage!

  2. Rebuild the garage.

  3. This is a brand new house and your car won't fit? You must have a Hummer.  No wonder you got a huge discount.  Sounds like they made a major design error.  You should seriously have the whole thing inspected for other issues like aluminum wiring hiding behind the wall sockets, and plumbing that goes nowhere (really).

If you have a normal size car, I'd look for another house, because that sounds just wrong.  If your car is something over-sized, keep the house and next time you're in the car market, get a Honda.

  4. sounds like a great bargain! if you have a jacked up truck or gas guzzling suv, it's not the garage's fault. if it's a regular car and it doesn't fit, you may have to reconsider and think about resale. do not transform a garage into another room, again, people like to have garages for cars and stuff! a major resale no-no!

  5. I don't know anybody except for the extremely rich that park cars in garages.

Even with the rich it is not the car they drive that gets put in the garage. They only park the museum piece there.

  6. Transfer the existing garage into a marvelous workshop and storage room (we all could use something like that), then build a beautiful carport, add a few climbing vines to the beams and voila, a masterpiece.

Congrats on the house, it sounds fantastic and a well designed carport certainly will NOT detract from your gorgous home. It will only enhance it, by adding to the living space, meaning your former garage. A computer room would also be a nice addition. The possibilities are endless.

  7. I don't see any reason you cannot move the support beam to the left or right with a proper header or get rid of it altogether and use a different support system. Talk to an architect or engineer.
