Buying a new tv now?

Question

I'm not trying to get all fancy with the premium stuff. I just want something better than I have now, an old wood-framed tv. Perhaps a decent flatscreen LCD or whatever. But my problem right now is that new stuff is comming up in Februrary, and I don't want to be caught up with a useless device. So, do I wait it out or go ahead and buy something? If I do buy a new tv, would I have to get a converter later? Or is that only if I want High Def mumbo jumbo?

I don't know the real scoops on what's going on, so thanks in advance!!

Any HDTV that you purchase will be ready for the digital switchover. You only need to worry about it if you currently get your TV signal through an antenna anyway. Assuming that you use an antenna, your old tv will work with a converter box. The FCC is giving away $40 off coupons so the boxes will only cost about $15 with the coupon (see link below if you want to get one).

If your ready to buy a new HDTV, don't worry about compatibility, it will work just fine. Assuming you have cable or satellite TV, you will need to get an HD box from your cable provider to get the HD channels. If you use an antenna, you should be all set but you MAY need a newer/better antenna if you live where the TV signals are weak.

By 'that new stuff' are you refering to the digital switch over?

Almost all TVs now are 'Digital ready' regardless of price and HD etc.
