Question:

Buying a rental/fleet vehicle?

So im planning to buy this fleet/rental vehicle that has 29,000 miles, specifically a 2006 mazda 6. In its first 7 months, it went from 0 miles to 26,000 miles. so the rest of 2007 and the first half of 2008 it was pretty dormant.

Now I just happened to watch this video

They say why you should never buy a rental vehicle. Does this mean don't buy one WITHOUT AN INSPECTION? Because if im gonna pay 200 or so bucks for an inspection i dont want a load of bullshit. I hear some mechanics lie about the real condition of your car. Is this true?

And also, do you need to change oil for cars that aren't being used for a long time?

  1. avoid rental cars

  2. buy from carmax

two years ago i bought a 04 alero for 9,000 with 17,000 miles and got a 80,000 mile warranty.

i've had to only replace the radio k**b.

  3. Don't go by what you have heard. Since you are getting the car inspected, you are in good hands. Make sure you go to a reputed place & not some mechanic close to the dealership. Those are usually in the Dealer's pocket.

The rental cars are usually well maintained. So you shouldn't expect large things. But pay close attention to your transmission oil & brake pads. Also yes get a oil change done anyway.

Since the car went from 0 to 26000 in 7 months, the engine didn't get proper Break-in. So don't keep the car past 60K -70K miles.

  4. i just bought a 2005 merc. sable i have carfax so i checked the vin number there nothing Major and then had a freind who is a mechanic everything ok it has 40000 miles on it   just check it out good and have someone else with you if your unsure then spend the200 if you want e-mail me the vin. no. and ill run it though car fax and e-mail you back it was a thrifty rental for 25000 miles
