Question:

Buying a resold used car bought at a tow place?

I'm gonna buy a used car but the guy told

me that the car was bought at a tow place.

He said the previous owner didn't claim

the car back. I'm not familiar with this kinda

stuff. I like the car and everything but I wanna

know if it's a scam or sth...What if the previous

owner hit someone or got a lotta tickets?

Do I need any document/certification from

the guy selling this car? What kinda extra

process do I need to go through at DMV?

Any other legal proccess?

Thanks!!

Btw, it doesn't have a plate. I don't think it's registered. Is it bad?

  1. the car broke it was towed in and fixed the guy did not pay the bill the tow guy went to court and got the car.  it is a legit buy before i would buy the car i would have a mechanic i trust check out the car front to back

  2. Make sure the car does not have a R title, which means a reconstructed Vehicle, it may have been in a bad wreck and the Tow yard guy rebuilt it. If it has an R title walk away, they are hard to get insurance for. Make sure the shop selling the car has the Title before you give him any money, if they do not have the Title available for you to see do not give them any money until you see the Title.

  3. Don't know what state you are from but in CA, this is called a lein sale. Make sure that the person you are buying the car from already had the car titled. A lein sale would not come with a title but with a bunch of papers proving it was leined.

If he didn't get the title put in his name than you will have a problem with DMV giving you a title. This is a 'no title,no sale'.
