Ive been looking at the 10 22 and heard alot of good things. the thing is I want to buy the bigger version with the bull barrel and laminate stock. Should i buy this one first and just add a scope or buy the regular one and hook it up? also later on i plan on making it fully automatic, how will that work with the bull barrel? would it be a waste of barrel? i know it wears out the barrel faster but would the bull barrel be better at handling it? any other suggetions just let me know thank you.

  1. Theres no need to make it full auto, and unless you have a class 3 FFl it isnt legal. The bull barrel and target stock are there with accuracy in mind. Trust me that little rifle will shoot fast enough as a semi auto.

  2. I own a 10/22 with bull barrel and a laminate stock.

I use it for rim-fire silhouette, (specialized target), shooting.

It would be a pain to carry it in the field, (too muzzle heavy).

The standard 10/22 is a nice accurate semi-auto for a first gun.

More dependable than most other auto-loading .22s.

If you want to modify it, DO get the Volquartsen target

    hammer and sear kit.

    It makes accurate shooting easier.

Don't bother with a full auto conversion.

    1. - It's illegal, a Federal Offense.

    2. - It just wastes a lot of ammo.

    3. - It does shorten barrel life, and it gets old real fast.

It's just not worth the trouble.

  3. you plan on making it fully automatic? Then you better plan on going to jail.

Stick with the plain ruger 10/22, and add a simple 4X scope.  Once you can hit a penny 9 shots out of 10 at 25 yards, then you can worry about getting fancier equipment.

  4. I own the Ruger 10 22, and love it to death! Laminate on the other hand is not my cup of tea.

As other have mentioned, I would look into regulations, and speak with a official before attempting to modify your firearm in anyway. It is illegal in many places to convert a firearm into fully automatic.

  5. I am not a fan of the laminate stock for shooting.  It looks cool, but it is the most comfortable option for me.  I would purchase the least expensive version of the 10/22 you can find and then change the barrel and stock out for aftermarket versions.  The Hogue rubber overmolded stock (~$60) is very comfortable and there are several barrels which work well.  I have been using Butler Creek because of the price and I have no complaints regarding accuracy.    I have taken several used 10/22 rifles for my builds.  Find one with a nice looking receiver and don't worry about the stock and barrel.   You should be able to find one for not much more than $100.

  6. Great choice of gun!  I agreed with the guy above, you don't need to spend a lots of money from the factory custom.  You can buy just about anything for the Ruger 10/22.

Again, making it into auto.  I don't think you want to do that, it is a jail term.  You can have the trigger work on and have lighter pull that is as good as auto.

  7. Get what you wan't. Oh, and turning it into full auto is ten years in prison.

  8. "Fully automatic"??....  Theres a lot of legal problems you could get into doing that. The BATF doesn't look at a .22 full auto rifle as some harmless little toy.... If you dont have the right permits (which cant be had in all states and counties) you could very well land your rear end in jail......

Everything depends on budgets.... If you have the cash then of course get the rifle with the bull barrel. Top it off with a nice scope, get a nice transit case and maybe a bipod..... Forget all that tactical gear that's made for these rifles. You do one of these 10/22's up all "tactical" and you will embarrass yourself at the gun club... Keep it simple sleek and nice and you will have a very cool rifle....

  9. If you live in the United States you are NOT going to convert it to fully automatic.
