Buying a snowboard.?

I'm looking to get into snowboarding, I have been looking at prices and they are very expensive not to mention the bindings and boots. A friend of mine is selling his Nitro board with bindings for 350$, is this a good deal or am I better off buying a new board and bindings for a little more?

What model of Nitro board? What bindings are on it? How old is it? What kind of shape is it in?

I sold my Nitro Shadow (2 seasons old) in excellent condition for $200 and my old bindings for $50 - these were "friend" prices, I would have asked more from a stranger.
