Buying a synthesizer for the first time?

hi, i'm planning to buy a synthesizer for the first time i really need some help. I need a specialized dance synth probably. thanks for your help!! :-D

What is your budget? (How much can you spend?)

For under $1000 there are several Yamaha models to choose from.  For over $1000 Korg makes lots of good ones.

I was looking for one a couple of years ago, and Alesis seemed to have the best value for the money.  I was seriously looking at the  Alesis QSR-8.

No matter what you buy, try and get one with weighted keys.  I can't stand the (low-end) synth. I have now -- without weighted keys.
