Buying a used luxury car?

right now i'm driving a 1996 mercedes benz E320, and i really do love it. it's just getting old, and the maintenance problems are starting to arise, along with the 20mpg i'm getting with all the driving that i do (almost 200 miles a day a couple times a week), it's time to get a newer (still used) car that gets better mileage.

i love the european cars. i find them reliable, safe, and downright gorgeous to look at. i'm hoping to get another european car, but maybe stray away from a mercedes.

my price range is about $10,000, and i'm looking for a car from maybe 1998-2003. i know 2003 is a stretch for my budget, but still, if possible...

i've been looking at the saab 9-5 (my boyfriend used to own one), and i really like it. it gets about 30mpg, safe, and with good upkeep, is pretty reliable (the only thing he had to fix were the lamps).

would the saab 9-5 be a good one for me? any other suggestions for cars similar to my E320 or the saab 9-5 that i might like?

thanks!

  1. yeah i like the car your driving..its when benz changed the look of the E class.. they look like that up to 2001.. DO NOT GET A SAAB..when one little component/ a small piece breaks..it costs a fortune to fix..my dad knows this guy who specializes in repairing Saabs, and people leave the car at the shop because it costs to much to fix...With 10 thousand bucks you could get a newer E320. You could also look at a 98-newer VOLVO S80 5-series bmw or 7-series benz..

  2. Acura

    CL 03

    MDX 01

    RSX 03

    Infiniti I35 03

    Lexus

    ES 00 & 01

    GS 6 cyl 00

    LS 98

    RX 00

    Mazda Miata 02 & 03

    Volvo S60 & V70 02

Saab and Audi are similar to MB in that the parts and service are way too expensive.

check out Lexus (very similar) but at least the parts and service are more widely available.

Saab like Jaguar has a bad reputation because diagnosing problems is not easy and never quick or inexpensive.

my friend recommends the Saab 9-2X 05 $12 to $14,000

(he does most of his own repairs & shops online 4 parts)

but my advice avoid Jeep, Audi, Saab, Jaguar. and

    run from Range/Land Rover.

  3. Get a BMW, Saab's have horrible mechanical track records and are a b* to fix.

  4. Buy an AMERICAN CAR AND SUPPORT THE USA!

  5. when you buy an older high line you will pay current high line prices for parts and repairs, be carefull
