It is my first time setting up a wireless network in the home..Is it possible to buy just the wireless access point? I was advised to do so, considering i have a d-link router ( that isn't wireless)... what is the difference between a wireless router and a wireless access point? Is there a way to plug an access point into a non wireless router?

  1. I think the access point is just basically a add on to your existing router.  Just buy linksys or netgear router and wireless drive thingmabobber

  2. Well if you get a wireless router you won't really need the non-wireless one any longer. It comes with port to plug up to the wired devices

  3. A wireless access point connects to a lan port on the router. This is all you need as the router then sorts out all the network traffic, wired and wireless. The access point alone could not sort out routing multiple machines any more than a wired network switch can. This is what a router does.
