I don't know how familiar you are with the "self" grocery store scans. But if you self check your items can you get by at buying alcohol when your underage? I had a debate with my friends and I'm curious if a person can get away with such an act without getting caught or being asked for an ID.

  1. there are usually people monitoring the self check out. and if you scan it i am sure the light will go off informing the clerk you need an id.

  2. The self-scan will stop and activate the "attention" light.  I can tell you from experience. The attendant will come ID you and enter a code that lets the scan continue.

Annoyingly, it will also activate the light if you buy non-alcohol products that come from the bar section. Corkscrews, mixer ingredients, even some glassware.

  3. The stores I've been to in NY all will ask you to show your ID to the attendant before you can proceed with your order. It does it to every person buying alcohol. So even if you happened to not have attendant there at the moment, you wouldn't be able to finish your order. You're going to be asked for ID.

  4. yep they will flash for assistance and youll be asked for i.d
