Question:

Buying an LCD TV, suggestions!?

So, I found out that the TV I was originally going to buy is c**p.

Knowing little to nothing about TVs other than 1080P is good, because it's full HD, I need some help.

Girlfriend wants something that's from 22" - 27". She wants to spend up to around 800$, less is better, but we don't want to start dipping price if it means bad quality. What should I be looking for, and could you give some examples of some you might be able to find!

Thanks everyone!

  3. 1. I don't believe you can find a 1080p TV under 32", so forget about 1080p. Most can't see the difference between 1080p and 720p/1080i in a screen size below about 46"-50", unless they sit a foot away from the screen. In smaller size screens, 1080p is a marketing ploy, rather than a necessity.

    2. From what you describe, you want a 26" LCD. The two top brands, for both performance AND reliability, are Panasonic Viera and Sony Bravia. A little bit less expensive, but good quality, is the Toshiba Regza followed, perhaps, by Sharp Aquos and Samsung. You'll easily make your budget with one of these TVs.

    3. Get some education before buying! Go to your local library and read the HDTV articles in the 11/07 and 3/08 Consumer Reports. Pay attention to the part on reliability!!!
