Buying an air plane ticket for someone else overseas?

I'm actually wondering this since a friend of mine can not afford a flight to a European country and another friend overseas in Europe offers to pay her an airline ticket to visit a European country. I wonder, is this even possible?

It can be done but it has complications, such as: if using a credit card it may be required to match the passengers name.  I've run into that problem buying tickets for my children.

Also while the Airline should be able to help you, that will probably be the most expensive ticket.  I would suggest you check, AAA or a local agent that will deal with you personally.

sure it should be possible. Just go to or call the airline you want to use and they should be able to help you.
