Any good websites/books for learning?

Where would you recommend me buying a guitar? Brand?

I've never had one and I know an entire 2 chords, so you could say I'm a bit of a beginner. Any tips?

  1. I would recommend getting a fender.  i have two strats, 1 tele, and a dg7.

My acoustic (dg7) sounds fantastic after 5 years of a lot of abuse.

as far as the tips go.. start off with lessons.  when you first start out, its easy to pick up bad habits

  2. you can find your basic video and song lessons on youtube.  I got my first guitar from guitar center.  It's an epiphone.  Since you are just starting out i would recommend a cheaper guitar ($200 or less) so you don't waste your money and find out you don't really want to learn.  If you have any friends that know guitar, have them come to guitar center with you and they (and you) can try out some guitars and you can find something you like.  good luck.

  3. Derek, go to your local guitar shop and ask what's on sale and explain what you're looking for.  Try playing one or two, listen to the sound and see how the action feels.  I have an old Aspen, I bought it on a close out.  I paid something like $125 for it.  A friend of mine went out and bought a Guild for a little over $1,000.  He was sure torqued when he compared the sound -- mine as far better.

  4. Hi there! I've been playing guitar for four years and the first acoustic guitar I bought was an Epiphone AJ100CE. It's an eletric-acoutic. Awesome guitar. Cheap too. Only about 160 bucks. The best online music store in my opinon is www.musiciansfriend.com That's where I buy most of my equpiment. You can find good books and simplified sheetmusic at www.sheetmusicplus.com.

    I hope that helps!
