Question:

Buying exotic frogs...?

I am thinking of getting myself a set up for exotic frogs. I already own some snakes and tortoises so am able to care for animals that need a special set up. I am wondering what kinds of frogs can be kept together though, if any. Would different species fight even if they are from the same area of the world?

Am I right in thinking that poison arrow frogs are not that poisonous? I have heard that only a few species are deadly enough to kill a human.

  1. pouisin arrow frogs can kill and pac man frogs cant live in groups they eat what moves so tree frogs or toads is what you want

  2. apparently they loose some of their toxicity once kept as pets.. this is not been 100% proven.

we have red eyed tree frogs.

if you want to keep more than one kind together - space and size of frog is important.. big frogs will eat small frogs

  3. Hi

Tree frogs are the best type of frogs to keep as you can get many colours and all can be kept together and are not poisonous. As lond as you have a adequate size cage then you should be fine.

  4. Dendrobates (poison arrow frogs) are not poisonous in captivity.  There is something in their diet in the wild the produces the toxins.  However that does not mean you can handle them freely, they can get sick from you touching them with all the c**p that on us, i.e. use gloves more for their safety than yours.  If poison arrow frogs are what you are looking towards yes you can keep different species in the same tank, but like the previous reply said, space is an issue.  NGC just had a huge exhibit in D.C. with over 70 dendrobates in one vivarium, from 10 differents species I think.  Just do your homework.
