Do any of you shop on line for your groceries? If so which supermarket is best and do they charge for delivery. Has any one experienced any problems? Thanks. x

  1. Yes, I have used Giant on several occasions....their website is: http://peapod.com.  They charge about $7.00 for delivery.  You can get a $1 discount on delivery if you let them deliver to you during weird hours.  I havent had any problems with them...you can even use coupons and when the deliveryman delivers your groceries, you give him the coupons....delivery is always on time and my order is always correct....and you can also get a discount off your bill by entering these codes: FIRST (for a discount off your first order), SECOND (for a discount off your second order) and so forth.  The only downside is that online groceries can cost slightly higher than they would than if you had gone to the grocery store.

  2. I've never shopped for groceries on-line. But there was a company who would send a truck to me to let me buy, and I've never been disappointed in their products. Schwann's sells some great meats and stuffed sandwiches! And they do have a web site now.

  3. I've only ever done it once, using Safeway.com.

Overall, it wasn't a bad experience, just not something that I'd do on a normal basis.

I believe delivery is about $10.  You choose a delivery window (i.e., your delivery will come between 8am-12pm, or 12pm-4pm, etc). Windows are usually 2hrs, but if you choose a "wider" window (say, 4hrs) your delivery charge gets reduced to about $8.

The best part, I'd say, is that you can take 30 minutes, put in your order and be done with the week's shopping.

The down-side, for me, was the wait. It was like waiting for the cable guy to show up. You're paranoid about using the bathroom, going to check the mail, etc. because you don't want to miss the delivery. lol

Also, with Safeway, I spent about $50 on groceries and ended up with probably 12 grocery bags. What they do (I assume) is go through by aisle/category and place those things in a bag. So, there'd be one bag for three cans of corn. Then an entirely new bag for two boxes of cereal.

    Pretty wasteful and tedious, IMO.

Still, if you just have a month's shopping to get out of the way but don't want to deal with it, it's definitely convenient.
