Buying iPhone without contract?

Question

Is it possible to walk into the Apple or AT&T store and purchase an iPhone without a contract, and how much would that cost?

I just want the iPhone to mess with and maybe later come back for a contract with AT&T? (The Apple store is a drive away from here so I can get my answer faster here)

The unlocked version is way too expensive considering I'm not using it for a phone for a little while..

as far as i know you can't they aren't selling it without a contract for at least a year or more. so i would suggest you go ahead and sign one and if you don't like it just return it within 15 day and you will have your money back

The cheapest way to buy iPhone without contract is on ebay. In apple store or any other store it will be $700 or more for new iphone. check out links below for some cheap ones (some under$500). Second link is for used ones. good luck.

you can buy without contract but only the old one, the new 3G one is only available on contract atm, i suggest you wait for thr 3G one to become available as it is better.

well if your not gonna buy a contract then you cant access the features like web etc..  i am not sure.. its better if you call them and ask to be sure
