Question:

Buying in San Diego's East Village, Good Idea?

We are moving out to San Diego in November and looking to buy a condo while the market is down. We definitely want to live downtown. I found a couple places in East Village on Broadway that are priced great for the square footage. We are mid-twenties newlyweds and don't have kids so schools are not an issue. I lived in downtown dc for over a year so I am used to not-so-great neighborhoods. My question is- would it be wise to buy there? Is the neighborhood on its way up? Or would it be better to invest in a more established neighborhood downtown?

  1. these are questions only a local realtor can answer, but be aware with the real estate correction we are seeing today, many/most realtors are hungry for a sale (commission), they will slant anything you ask so as to get the sale. Go to the east village and ask those living there what they like/don't like about the building/neighborhood. You'll get better, more reliable answers than you will here--and good luck to you!
