Buying milk?

Is it better to buy milk in plastic jugs and recyle them? or to buy milk in plastic bags and throw them out? I know there are better ways, but because of cost and some recycling limitation, I'm trying to decide beween these two options. I know the production and recycling of plastic cause pollution and consume energy, so which is the lesser of two evils?

  1. I'd get the jugs and recycle and see where the milk comes from because burning less gas is better for earth and the milk from local farmers is probably more fresh...

  2. i get plastic jugs. and i recycle them.. iv never heard of milk in plastic bags before. lol

  3. I buy milk from a local milk delivery company who still deliver in glass pint bottles.  They collect the empties and re-use them.  The milk will also be local.  Surely this is a great solution?

  4. I've recently written an article regarding milk in plastic bags, I believe Wa****se (supermarket) will be selling these soon.  The plastic bag is bio-degradable so you will be able to pop it on the compost heap -you will however, have to buy a jug that is designed to hold the bag but in addition, that is made from recycled plastic.

  5. In south ireland milk used to be bought in plastic bags (going back many years) - and this is now happening in some areas around the uk.  I feel this is best because (1) you can freeze the mik in pint bags and (2) if you wash the  bags out properly you can recycle them by using them as freezer bags!

  6. milk in plastic bags??? get the jug and recycle it.

  7. Perhaps, stop consuming milk,or buy a cow or goat of your own.

  8. I would buy the plastic and recycle it.

Furthermore, I would check where the milk comes from.  Buying milk produced local uses less gas than milk from far away, and is probably fresher.

  9. I would go with plastic jugs and recycle them. I have heard of milk in plastic bags, I worked at a restaurant that gets milk in 5 gallon plastic bags and they were thrown away.

  10. Jugs ,plus you can us the jugs for stuff.Just use your imagination.

  11. At over $4 a gallon we've switched from plastic gallon jug milk to powder milk in a box. I get almost 3 times as much milk as I would if I bought it in a store plus the cardboard is recyclable . And the taste is the same if not better! I was real skeptical ( I remember drinking it as a kid all separated and whatnot ) but they have really come along way with it. My daughter loves the "Astronaut Milk"  Good Luck!

  12. It has been proven by countless doctors and researchers that milk is not good for human consumption. We are not calves! All the hormones and antibiotics in it....yuck! Why would anyone want to drink it??
