Buying new furniture?

I am buying new furniture for the first time, I was wondering if one is able to haggle the price at all?

  1. Personally, I would not buy newly manufactured furniture.  Basically, it is a MDF or particle board covered with veneer and when it gets a bit wet, it will swell up.

    I would not buy any furniture manufactured after 1985.  I cruised antique stores and bought shaky furniture, took it home, repaired it, and refinished it.  Solid Wood and sound as a drum


  2. Absolutely!!! You can and should haggle. All furniture is excessively marked up, so haggle away. The best deal I got was a $2000 leather sofa for $1000. When you make the offer be direct and confident; it'll serve you well.

  3. I have worked in many high end furniture stores.  There was no haggling.  The prices were firm. Getting a better deal meant watching for sales.
