  1. there are 12 on a jury in a criminal case and their role is to consider the evidence and decide if the person is guilty or not after instruction on legal points by the judge

The jury members for a criminal trial are picked from a panel from a list of those available and required for jury duty, this panel is changed monthly, both prosecution and defence have a limited number of objections to a member being on the jury without reason, after the jury has been selected they are then charged to regard the evidence, as a 'reasonable man', and with legal assistance from the Judge decide on the guilt or innocence of the accused. It is called trial by a jury of peers.
