Question:

By bus from Mexico City airport to Guadalajara?

I would need to get from the Mexico City airport to Guadalajara as easily (and preferably as cheap) as possible. My flight lands at 21.35 pm and I'd like to take the bus asap. What would be the nearest bus station that has lines going to Guadalajara? Also if you happen to know which bus companies operate that line, I'd be grateful.

Thanks in advance!

  1. I don't know, but I think your lucky.  I'm going to Guadalajara but  I have to wait until summer :(  Have fun :D

  2. I don't know about the flights that were mentioned but you could check with Aero Mexico and Mexicana as they both have websites.I don't think there is bus to Guadalajara from the airport. There are some buses that run from a small terminal in the airport but not at night ...What I do know is that buses run 24 hours a day to Guadalajara from Terminal Norte in Mexico City.ETN and Primera Plus both have direct buses. The fare should be about $45US +/-and travel time is seven hours. From the airport to Terminal Norte by taxi should not be more than $10-15US and a drive time of 20-30 minutes from the airport.

When you come out of the customs/immigration area into the airport lobby you will see the casas de cambios /money changers and also some people selling taxi coupons. The prices are fixed and you pay according to where you are going.Tell them Terminal Norte and they will write you a ticket and take your money When you are ready to go,walk outside and someone will take your ticket and put you in the correct taxi.

If you need to change money first, there are ATMs or the money changers.I would suggest just changing what you think you will need for a day or so.You can change more money in Guadalajara at a bank where you will get a much better rate than at the airport.A Visa debit card works best in ATMs all over Mexico and it saves time standing in line at the bank.

The exchange rate is good in the ATMs and they are automatically updated daily(You can only get pesos from the ATMs).

The bus terminals are large and resemble an airport terminal with all the different ticket counters.Once inside find the ETN and Primera Plus counters and see who has the next departure and see if they still have a seat.If they do they may ask you if you want a window or aisle seat or they may show you a seating chart and have you select a seat or they may just assign you a seat. They should also tell you what door to go to and point you in the right direction.

You are usually responsible  for getting your bags to the bus and checking them and sometimes even loading anything you have that is too large for the overhead storage areas

If you have time be sure to pick up a bottle of water and maybe some snacks in the terminal before you leave.

There can often be petty thiefs or pickpockets working in the terminal so be aware and stay close to your stuff .

I assume someone will meet you once you arrive in Guadalajara so this is all the information you need.If that is not the case then you can email me through the link on my profile page or you can post something in additional information. If I dont hear from you, have a great trip!

  3. you'll be arriving around 11:30 at night and you want a bus to Guadalajara?! Most travel books reccommend against bus travel late at night in the area in question... hold ups/ worse happen during these hours. I have never found flights, even short ones, very cheap in mexico and I have been many times. But for common sense's sake, change your flight to arrive at a better time or to go directly to Guad. Direct will be cheaper than picking up another flight afterwards, (even though it may stop in Mex. city first) by the way It's an all day/night bus trip. Mexico City is a big place and it even has more than one major airport. You want to arrive as close to the bus terminal you'll need for Guad. or spend hours getting from one part of the city to another. You may even have to catch a slow bus just to catch one or two more before arriving at your bus station for Guad> I am SERIOUS!!!. I have had to learn the hard way. The library keeps older copies of Mexico travel books or you could by a new one. One of these will tell you all you need to know. Good luck, bloke!

ps...don't let your gear out of your site, if possible and if you go to sleep, keep your stuff as close as possible...not under the seat!..you'll lose stuff.

  4. ok crazy...take a plane!!!!  you are already at the airport and i am telling you, a budge airline that runs flights between the two biggest cities in mexico is going to be cheaper than the bus ticket!!  not to mention a LOT faster.  i would land, then go ask around at some ticket counters.  the flights leave hourly to guadalajara.

if you insist on the bus for some crazy reason, then i would take ETN.  they are the best, and safest.  I do believe they run a bus from the airport.  they buses leave about every 4 to 5 hours to guadalajara.  so if they didn't have one leaving from the airport, i am sure you would have time to make the huge long trek to the bus station, in the crazy traffic, with the expensive taxi.

so...if we add up your bus ticket (about 65 USD) and your taxi (no less than 30 USD) you have more than paid for your airline ticket from DF to guadalajara, and THEN some.  not to mention ALL the time....8 hour bus ride!!!

seriously, the airfare should be between 39-59 USD.  they have great low budget airlines.
