By passing the administrater password

Question

I just bought a Acer 5040 from one of my friends. The computer belonged to her brother which is now gone over seas to war. He has got the computer locked where I can't do anything and we have not been able to talk to him,and not for sure when we can. How can I restore the computer with out the disk?
