China has 1.3 bil people USA has 300 mil. By stats alone China would have more gold medals RIGHT? They lose!!!? THey brag this proves comunisim is BETTER than a free society. They have many times more athletes to pick from..and threaten. USA wins again. right? Chinese math....

Now if you're talking about medals in general, then yes, they should have more.  

In all honesty though, they have improved dramatically from previous Olympics.  Before this year, the most medals they had ever won was 63.  They've only been going to the Olympics since 1984.  For comparison, that's the same year Dara Torres first competed in the Olympics.

Statistically speaking you're absolutely correct, but either way America would still not be at the top of the medal count.  For instance Australia has less than 1/10th of the population of the US (21mil compared to 300mil...) so by using you theory if the US was to beat us, you would need to have 10 times as many gold medals...at the moment you have just over double.

Perhaps instead of coming up with ways to make it seem the US is the best, you could realise that China has outperformed you, and realise there can be a dignity about coming second.

There's no reason to be competitive.  Enjoy the show the athletes are putting on for you, no matter which country they are from.

Chinese communism is different. They have a mixed economy, not totally free market and not totally command.

And China does have more golds, according to Yahoo!

China has no welfare system.  A large slice of that 1.3 bln people live in poverty.  USA's 300 mil all enjoy benefits and welfare checks simply by doing nothing.  There is a huge difference between the two populations.  When someone is feeding off of scraps and doing 3+ odd jobs a day, it makes it kind of difficult to train in sports.
