Bypass factory amp in 2001 Dodge Dakota?

How do I bypass the factory amplifier in a 2001 Dodge Dakota w/ Infinity system? I have an aftermarket receiver and speakers already installed and working, but I read that you will get better sound if you bypass the factory amp. I'm fine with cutting wires, soldering, etc.

  1. The factory amp is located high up in the kick panel on the passenger side.  To bypass it, you'd unplug the amp, locate all the "input" wires coming from the head unit, and connect them directly to the "output" wires running to your speakers.

Note that you'll have to leave your factory tweeters disconnected when you bypass the amplifier.  If you have after-market speakers in the front door, then you don't need the stock tweeters in the system anyway.

  2. There are a few possible locations for the amp. It is sometimes mounted behind and above the glove box, under the rear pass seat (for 4 door), and sometimes mounted on the back side of the front door speakers. Since you replaced the speakers already, you can rule that location out because it would be attached to the magnet of the speaker. you then have to unplug both plugs and wire the speaker wires together. Here are some of the wire colors I could find for you. They may be common in both sides of the harness, but if not, you can tap each speaker out to match speaker and polarity. If you cant get it, dont worry. you could go to Best buy or a local shop and they'll only charge you like $60.

    Hope this helps you!
