Byrd flies in second round at Justin Timberlake’s charity golf tournament
The second round of the Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospitals for Children Open wrapped up on Friday at TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas, Nevada. Jonathan Byrd carded a score of 13-under-par to take the midway lead.
The player shot a score of 8-under-63 in the second round to draft a lead with the help of nine birdies against a bogey. Byrd is eyeing his fourth PGA Tour victory in the fourth of five Fall Series events. He was followed by Ryuji Imada, who was one stroke
behind with a score of 62.
The player shot one eagle with eight birdies to surge into the lead, but he dropped a shot on his way to take second place. The 34-year-old, who hails from Hiroshima, drafted the most beautiful shot of the day. He lifted an eagle from the sand bunker with
a sand wedge on the par-4 15th. But still the Japanese golfer could not match his lowest score on the course, he required 26 putts.
Next on the leader board was a group of five players, who were trailing behind the leader with two strokes. The group included the defending champion Martin Laird, Alex Prugh, John Senden, George McNeill and Nicholas Thompson. One stroke below were four
golfers, Cameron Tringale, Michael Letzig, Chad Campbell and Rickie Fowler. In this quad, Fowler and Campbell took the lead by carding a round of 64. Other than them David Duval and Greg Chalmers too compiled a 64.
Fowler seemed to pick up the pace as he was lagging behind in the opening round, but he picked up seven birdies with the help of a driving distance at 303. On the other hand Campbell compiled a better round with eight birdies, but he missed a shot at the
third hole, which resulted in a bogey.
Fowler’ Ryder Cup team mate, Hunter Mahan was trailing behind at 7–under-par.
Some excellent scoring took place after the rain made the greens of TPC Summerlin soft and reachable. Initially the par-71 course was giving a challenge with its hard greens, but after the rain the scenario changed. Two players carded the course lowest with
63s, Graham DeLaet and Spencer Levin.
Byrd is a three-time winner on the PGA tour, with his last victory in the 2007 John Deere Classic. Like other players in the  field, Byrd is expecting a  high finish to reach the glorious top-125 on the season's money list, which earns a golfer an automatic
exemption on the 2011 PGA Tour. The 32-year-old is currently standing at 117th spot with earnings of $760,981.
The first round leaders took the back seat in the second round. Michael Letzig and Cameron Tringale posted 68s to share the eighth spot, whereas, Will MacKenzie drafted a 70 and Robert Garrigus finished with a 71.
Rocco Mediate, who rocked the Frys.com Open with one eagle in each round and a hole-in-one in the first failed to make the cut after the second. The player picked up two birdies against one bogey to wrap the round up with one-under. The cut line set for
the tournament was 4-under- 138 therefore, 57 players missed the cut.
Unlike Mediate, Arjun Atwal made the cut with the help of 3-under, which he picked in the second round. The Indian delivered a scorecard of six birdies and three birdies to make himself eligible for the next round.
Justin Timberlake Shriners Hospital for Children Open has stepped into the third round at TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas, Nevada. Jonathan Byrd from United States charged from behind and took the midway lead.
Two more rounds are left to decide the final winner. Golf is a sport where predicting a certain winner is not preferable as the leader board keeps on changing till the final moment.  Who will win the prize money of $774,000 is a question that will be answered
by the end of the coming weekend.
