Byron Smith shares the lead after round two of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica’s Lexus Perú Open
Byron Smith of the Unites States added another 68 to his scorecard on day two to share the lead at the PGA Tour Latinoamérica’s Lexus Perú Open, on Friday, November 2, 2012.
Clodomiro Carranza and Pablo Acuna were the other two players who shared the top position, entering the final two rounds. Sebastian Fernandez and Jose Manuel Garrido were tied for the fourth spot at a seven-under par two-round score.
The sixth leg of the inaugural season of the PGA Tour Latinoamérica is being played at the Los Inkas Golf Club.
Smith’s start to the second round was not good. He parred the first three holes, prior to conceding a bogey on the fourth.
He then picked up some pace and added three shots in a row to his scorecard, starting from the seventh hole.
After parring the 10th hole, he once again repeated a three-hole streak of birdies from the 11th hole. On the 17th hole, he lost another shot of the day and finished the day with an eight-under par overall score.
Smith made it to the PGA Tour Latinoamérica by winning the Qualifying School Latin TOUR three months ago.
He now aims to record his first victory on the tour by displaying a consistent game throughout the week.
"I'm feeling more comfortable here and I like this field," he said. "I'm starting to make sense of things here. Some time ago I'm looking to get into one of the last groups to be in contention and just for the fun of it. I'm exactly where I want to be”.
Carranza, who joined the winning circle of the tour last month by recording a victory at the 59th Brasil Open, was pleased with his bogey-free performance on day two.
Acuna, in the meantime, surprised his rivals on the course with an impressive run of four birdies on the final five holes that he played.
"I stayed very patient, very quiet, without any expectations, and made five birdies on the back nine without waiting. I'm playing very well, so I have to just let things happen," said the 28-year-old Guatemalan, who led the team qualified for the World Cup
in 2008 and 2011.
