Byword and Goldikova to clash again in Prix d’Ispahan: Horse Racing news
Some of the most eagerly anticipated and prestigious racing events of the current season are scheduled to be held over the next few weeks. First it was the famous Cheltenham Festival that took place in the middle of March, which featured some of the best
racehorses from around the United Kingdom.
Then it was the rich Dubai World Cup and the John Smith’s Grand National event. The latter event was subjected to a lot of criticism after two racehorses died on the last day of the meeting while numerous others were injured and bruised.
Now one of the most awaited events is the Qipco 2000 Guineas which is scheduled to take place at the Newmarket racecourse and the Prix d’Ispahan that will take place at Longchamp next month. The most interesting aspect of the aforementioned race is the clash
between champions and arch-rivals Byword and Goldikova.
The former colt is the winner of the Royal Ascot meeting and will now face his opponent on the track where the pair raced against each other in the last racing season. On that occasion they were separated by just half a length at the end of the race. Byword
is once again all set to face his old rival.
Byword is owned by Khalid Abdullah and according to the racing manager of the colts owner, Teddy Grimthorpe, the racehorse will make his seasonal debut at the Prix du Muguet. This event has been specified as a Group 2 race and has been scheduled to take
place on 1st May at the Saint Cloud racecourse.
The five-year-old racehorse trains under the care of famed trainer Andre Fabre. After this race Byword will be focusing on beating the three time winner of the Breeders Cup.
Talking to the reporters, Grimthorpe said, “It is planned to run Byword in the Prix d’Ispahan and he may run in the Prix Muguet, which he won a year ago.”
Byword was beaten by Goldikova in the last edition of this event, yet only time will tell who will bag the crown this racing season.
