C.C. Sabathia and Andy Pettitte placed on DL list – MLB New York Yankees News
Throughout the season, the New York Yankees have shown that they are one of the favourites to win this year’s World Series title. Joe Girardi and company have the unique ability to come up with their best in pressure situations, which has allowed them to
win several low scoring games.
Right now, the Yankees are occupying the first position on the American League East Division standings table and credit must be given to their bullpen for giving results on regular basis.
Yankees’ pitchers have won games against some of the hitting line-ups this season but injuries have also troubled them on many occasions.
Youngster Michael Pineda, who produced some great results last year, suffered a shoulder injury last month and he may not return until the end of the season. However, despite losing Pineda, the Yankees continued to find winning ways.
Phil Hughes, C.C. Sabathia and Hiroki Kuroda looked unstoppable at times as the Yankees consolidated their place at the top of the League.
“For as young as he is, he has a great deal of experience. He's been through a great deal, and he's done nothing but continue to mature and be the pitcher that you see him right now,” Former Indians’ manager Eric Wedge said.
However, just when it seemed the New York Yankees were going to have one of their finest Major League Baseball seasons, two of Yankees’ front line pitchers were injured in just a couple of hours.
“Bad day for lefthanders,” Girardi said with a sigh. “Guys just have to step up now. I came to the park today feeling pretty good about the way we’ve been playing. But nobody’s gonna feel sorry for us.”
Ace Sabathia is expected to return from his strained left groin muscle on Sunday against New York Mets. Veteran Andy Pettitte, who was hit on his ankle in a game against Cleveland Indians, may require some time to recover and it is unclear exactly when he
will be available.
General Manager Brian Cashman has some serious thinking to do in the upcoming days. However, considering the experience he has, he is likely to lead his team out of trouble.
