C. C. Sabathia fails in crucial ALCS Game 4 against Detroit Tigers – MLB Update
New York Yankees’ ace C.C. Sabathia will be very disappointed with his effort in a must win American League Championship Series Game 4 against the Detroit Tigers.
Yankees were down 0-3 in the series when Sabathia stepped on the mound at Comerica Park in Detroit. Everybody was looking forward to a Yankees fight back but that did not turn out to be the case as Sabathia gave up six runs and 11 hits in just over three
innings to take his first loss of the post season.
The Yankees went out of the World Series title race on Thursday, October 18 after losing four straight games against the inspired Tigers. However, what led to Yankees’ failure? It was the batting line-up that struggled to score runs against Tigers’ rotation
since the start of the playoffs.
"They're a good team with dominant pitching. Give those guys credit -- they pitched great," Sabathia said. "And we didn't match them. We pitched good, but not great. They pitched great."
"It's embarrassing to me," Sabathia said.
"It's embarrassing to me to come out and not give our team a chance to win," Sabathia said in a post game interview. "I pride myself on trying to give us a chance and I didn't do that tonight."
With the exception of a four run inning by Jose Valverde in Game 1, Yankees managed to score just two runs in four games. Robinson Cano, who looked on top of his game play during the regular season, was kept quiet by the Tigers’ pitchers as he finished at
0.75 with 3-for-40 at-bat. Curtis Granderson was 3-for-30 with 15 strike-outs and Russell Martin ended managed just .161 with 5-for-31 at bats.
"It wasn't one guy. It wasn't two guys," Yankees’ manager Joe Girardi said with disappointment on his face. "It was a bunch of guys."
Eric Chavez and Nick Swisher also failed to make any significant contributions. Perhaps, the Yankees lacked direction after they lost Derek Jeter to an ankle injury in Game 1. It will be interesting to see what changes Girardi will make to Yankees’ batting
line-up for the next season.
