C.C. Sabathia helps New York Yankees outclass Seattle Mariners 6-3 at Yankee Stadium – MLB Update
New York Yankees outclassed the Seattle Mariners 6-3 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Friday, August 3 in the first game of their three match series.
Yankees used their home conditions extremely effectively on Friday to put themselves in the driver’s seat. Showing great composure and maturity, Joe Girardi and company secured a much needed victory to snap Mariners’ impressive winning streak.
Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia grabbed his 11th win of the season, showing just what he is capable of. The left hander gave up just three hits and three runs as he struck-out 10 batters in his first complete game of the season,
He will be looking to continue his excellent form over the next couple of months to take the Yankees into the World Series finals.
"I know today they came out really aggressive. They do have a lot of lefties in their lineup, and that tends to work in my advantage," Sabathia said.
"I've been paying attention to what he's been doing. Even though I don't play, I watch how he's attacking hitters," said Russell Martin, who caught behind the plate for Chris Stewart. "I wanted to make sure he had a good start today. I'm glad we put that
behind us."
"It's just nice to get behind there with the ace," Martin said. "It felt pretty natural. I was maybe a little nervous before the game."
Curtis Granderson looked in commanding form as he earned an RBI single to shallow centre in the third inning to break the deadlock and put the Yankees on the board.
Eric Chavez also displayed some top quality hitting skills as he belted a two run home-run to right in the sixth to help New York take a crucial 4-1 lead.
Robinson Cano singled to right and Raul Ibanez singled to centre in the seventh and the Yankees took complete control of the situation, leading the score 6-1.
For Seattle, Casper Wells shined with a home-run to right in the fourth inning. Dustin Ackley also hit a home-run in the bottom of the ninth but his effort was never going to stop the Yankees from earning a well deserved victory.
