C. C. Sabathia ineffective as New York Yankees fall to Detroit Tigers 1-8 – MLB Update

New York Yankees suffered another embarrassing loss as they fell to the Detroit Tigers 1-8 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, October 18 in Game 4 of their best of seven American League Championship Series.
With four straight wins against the mighty Yankees, Jim Leyland and company claimed the ALCS title as well. Yankees, once again, failed to put enough runs on the board. A collective batting failure led to another forgettable loss.
Starting pitcher C. C. Sabathia had a forgettable time on the mound as he gave up six runs on 11 hits in just over three innings to take the loss. Tigers’ batters used the conditions perfectly to pressurise Sabathia, putting a big total on the board. Relief
pitcher David Robertson and Derek Lowe also gave up two runs in two innings.
"That's part of the game. You're not going to be great all the time," Cano said. "You have to give credit to the Tigers. They did a great job and beat us in four."
"We went out there and gave it everything we had. It just wasn't good enough," said Nick Swisher.
"You're crushed," Rodriguez said. "Obviously you work eight months to get to this point. I know there are a lot of teams that would love to get in this position in the ALCS with an opportunity to go to the World Series, but we just came up short."
Curtis Granderson, Robinson Cano, Raul Ibanez, Ichiro Suzuki and Nick Swisher all failed to live to their immense potential as the Yankees finished the series with just six runs against the Tigers’ pitching rotation.
The fans will be disgusted with what they saw from the hitters in all four games of the series. Alex Rodriguez, who is the best hitter in Yankees’ batting line-up, has been the biggest disappointment of them all.
Rodriguez sat out Game 3 but even that move by Manager Joe Girardi could not change Yankees’ destiny. It was only the fourth time Yankees were swept in a post season series. It will be interesting to see if Girardi can sort out their batting problems in
the next season to cheer up their fans.
