C.C. Sabathia shines as New York Yankees rout Boston Red Sox 10-2 – MLB Update
New York Yankees humiliated the Boston Red Sox 10-2 at Yankee Stadium in New York on Monday, October 1 in the opening game of their three match series.
Yankees started the game on a very aggressive note and they kept the pressure on their American League East Division rivals right until the end. Starting pitcher C.C. Sabathia produced another magical performance to claim his 15th win of the season.
"I'm not worried about Friday. I'm worried about today, and now that today is over I'm worried about tomorrow," Girardi said. "I think if you start thinking too far ahead, you can get yourself in a bad position."
Sabathia, who is considered to be the best Yankees’ pitcher, has given some great results since the start of the year. Surely, he will be looking to continue his winning streak to help New York reach the World Series finals.
In his eight effective innings, Sabathia gave up just four hits and two runs while striking-out seven batters. Relief pitcher Freddy Garcia pitched a perfect ninth as Yankees completed an emphatic win over their arch rivals.
"That's what you want," manager Joe Girardi said. "That's what you hope that you have all the time when you're playing this game, that you can control your own destiny."
"When Robby gets on these streaks, there's no one better in baseball," Teixeira said. "It looked like he was playing Wiffle Ball out there, just flicking the ball all over the ballpark."
Robinson Cano provided the Yankees with a kind of start they were hoping for as he connected for a solo home-run to centre in the second inning to put Yankees on the board. Curtis Granderson stretched Yankees’ lead to 3-1 with a two run home-run to right.
Russell Martin, Alex Rodriguez and Cano made valuable contributions to put New York in a commanding position. First baseman Mark Teixeira also had an excellent time on the plate as he hit his 24th home-run of the season to take the lead beyond
Boston’s reach. Daniel Nava and Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in runs to help Red Sox avoid the shut-out.
