C.J Hobgood moves into third round of the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro
The second round of the 2011 Billabong Rio Pro got off to a flying start with the most sizzling and acrobatic performance of C.J. Hobgood of the US at Arpoador in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Wednesday.
Hobgood was up against the most competitive and thrilling surfer, Julian Wilson, of Australia. The tenth heat started in a stunning fashion as the US surfer made a big splash alongside the most challenging and big waves of the water at Arpoador.
On the other hand, Wilson gave a tough time to Hobgood by inching towards the closest victory, but he lost the heat by a fringe margin of 1.80 points.
C.J Hobgood won the tenth heat of the day against the Aussie surfer with the highest score of 16.50 (out of 20), while Julian Wilson placed second with an individual score of 14.70 in the respective heat.
“That’s what makes those heats fun to surf and it’s exciting to watch,” Hobgood said. “I have so much respect for Julian (Wilson) because these kids can come back so easily no matter what scores they need. I had a good start and had to be comfortable with
my performance win or lose. It was exciting and I’m stoked to make it, I have so much fun surfing against these guys.”
De Souza beat Ricardo Santos of Brazil in the second round with a sterling score of 16.43 to 12.66 yesterday.
“It’s a good rebound after yesterday’s loss and I’m really stoked with my performance out there,” De Souza said.
On the other side, Kieren Perrow of Australia clinched the highest heat score of 11.50 out of 20, while Gabe Kling of the United States of America wound up second with a total score of 11.40 in the corresponding heat.
Owing to this most sensational victory in the seventh heat, the Aussie surfer Perrow had jumped into the third round at Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. He was immensely pleased with his overall performance in the seventh heat at Arpoador today. Perrow will compete
with Joel Parkinson of Australia in the third round at Arpoador tomorrow.
In the eight-heat, Josh Kerr of Australia captured the first spot with a sterling score of 12.74, while his countryman Chris Davidson lost the heat with a score of 12.17. After capturing the eight-heat, Josh was really excited and thrilled by his performance
at Rio de Janeiro. He will be up against Jordy Smith (ZAF) in the third round now.
In the third round, Adriano de Souza of Brazil and C.J. Hobgood of the US will be up against each other at Arpoador.
