C.J Watson chooses Deron Williams over Derrick Rose on the first day of new job – NBA News
C.J. Watson will be better off if he does not make a trip to Chicago anytime soon or he will face some angry Bulls fans who might feel betrayed by his latest comments.
Watson played for the Bulls last season as a backup to All Star Derrick Rose. He even saw some playing time as a starter as Rose suffered from a list of injuries throughout the season.
However, Watson was not retained by the Bulls at the end of the season and was picked up by the Brooklyn Nets in free agency. He will now be backing up All-Star point guard Deron Williams and has wasted no time in getting on the
good side of the Nets franchise player.
During his introductory press conference in Brooklyn, Watson said:
“I always thought Deron was the best point guard in the league, always playing against him, watching him. He’s always one of the toughest players, when everyone asks me who is the toughest point guard, I always say him. Between
him and D-Rose, it’s pick-your-poison.”
Watson’s comments might not go down well with Bulls fans, who idolize Rose as the best thing to have happened to Chicago basketball since Michael Jordan. And Watson’s comments are a bit outrageous to say the least.
Deron Williams may be a more suited point guard player with respect to his style of play and his preference to make plays rather than take shots, whereas Rose is a shoot first pass later point guard. But when one talks about current
NBA players who play at the point guard position, Rose is hands down better than Williams, and has a list of accomplishments and accolades to prove it. Rose is already a regular season MVP and has led his team to a conference finals appearance. Williams on
the other hand has been a perennial underachiever.
Watson’s comments sound more like an attempt to cement his place in a new team and organization. It is unclear how Rose will react to the comments, but Watson’s words will surely be remembered by the Chicago fans when he comes
over to the windy city as a member of the Brooklyn Nets next season.
