C.J. Wilson and Michael Young rally the Texas Rangers to a Series win over Boston Red Sox
Last night, Christopher John Wilson and Michael Young steered the Texas Rangers to an emphatic win over the Boston Red Sox to claim the series 2-1. The Rangers’ Ballpark housed an attendance of 30,252 fans as a thumping 99 degree sunny weather loomed over the proceeds of the match. The 3-day consecutive sellout run came to an end as only 61.5% seats were filled out for the fixture.
The Rangers went into the match squaring the series even with their visiting Eastern Division rivals. The squad was looking to make their mark on the American League by putting one of the top fishes of Major League Baseball to the sword. The game was set to provide the fans a critical valuation of the Texas club’s performance in terms of the other squads in the league, to test the team’s playoff season potential.
The Red Sox, on the other hand, were looking to maintain their last game’s winning start to a consistent undertaking. Looking to pounce on their opponents with pedigree and finesse, the club had been under much pressure recently as it looked to rise above the Tampa Bay Rays for a better finish in the Eastern Division League before the playoffs started. However, last night would not turn out the way they’d anticipated as their opponents obliterated their chances for a series win.
Boston began the top first, but it was the Rangers who scored the first of the ball game with Jorge Cantu in the bottom second. The hitter singled his way to the first base. Then, through Mitch Moreland’s walk, the player got to the second base. Taylor Teagarden came on and sacrificed to the pitcher, but not before he allowed the other base holders to move up the diamond. The run finally came when Andres Blanco hitting a sacrifice flyer to the centre, releasing Cantu, to make a run for the final base, without hesitation.
It wasn’t till the bottom 7th that another run was scored. Things got frustrating for the visitors as the Rangers put on more runs on the board. Moreland got on the sheet this time through Julio Borbon’s bunt to the second for a single. This brought up 2 runs for the home team and put the Red Sox on high alert as they were losing the game. However, all that didn’t matter when Manny Delcarmen relieved Daisuke Matsuzaka. The reliever was made a spectacle by Michael Young who hammered a 423 feet homer towards the left centre. This brought up 3 extra runs on the board for the team as Borbon and Elvis Andrus scored their runs from the homer. The score line at that time was 5 Texas - 0 Boston
Boston replied in the top 8th with Marco Scutaro banging a double down the deep left centre. That hit allowed Eric Patterson to make it to the last base with no trouble, letting the Red Sox record their first run of the game. Reliever P Strop was put through much humiliation again as Darnell McDonald smashed a 374 feet homer to the right, allowing himself and Scutaro to enter the score sheet. The runs tally changed to 5 Texas - 3 Boston.
What looked like a fighting chance by the visitors was made to look difficult. The Rangers responded to their offense in the bottom 8th, with Most Valuable Player candidate, Josh Hamilton who scored off Blanco’s single to the right. The 7th run came off Teagarden who ran past the last base, off Borbon’s single to the right. The final score tally reached 7 Texas - 3 Boston.
Christopher Wilson came off the match, having pitched 113 balls. In the process, he struck out 8 players, allowing 4 hits, 1 run and 1 walk. His counterpart, Matsuzaka came off with 7 hits, 4 runs and 2 walks allowed. He struck out 8 players as well in his 115 pitches.
The match ended with a significant Texas victory. With a lead of 8 and half games in the American League Western Division, almost everyone can see the headlines of the final day. Who are expected to be champions, the Rangers have made history. They can now owe it to their players who’ve worked hard to earn the team its trophy after a long while.
