C. J. Wilson critical as Texas Rangers win tricky encounter against Kansas City Royals
C. J. Wilson pitched the Texas Rangers to an all critical win over the Kansas City Royals, as the American League West leaders finished their match on top with a score line of 8–7.
Barely managing a victory, the Texans established the best record start of the American League, as they snatched their 14th win of the 2011 Major League Baseball season.
However, the starter was not happy, as he lost his focus in the middle of the game.
While Adrian Beltre criticised his weak adaption of the role on the plate with the Rangers, Wilson beat himself to the punch, highlighting his weak start to the game against the Royals. The Texas club salvaged a clean sweep victory at their home stadium,
Rangers Ballpark, but their premier pitcher was not happy.
The ball thrower missed a cutter on various occasions and gave one run, trying to pitch one to Mike Aviles in the fifth. While the maestro stayed two runs out of the batch in the sixth, he went on to concede another two in the seventh.
"I'm not happy with all sorts of things", Wilson said. "I threw a cutter right down the middle, the guy hits it out. I mean, he got it up in the wind and it went out. He hit it well.
I give up hits on sinkers. I gave up a hit on a curve ball in the first inning. A couple of different pitches, I'm really [upset]".
Wilson played in seven innings, giving up eight hits and four runs. One major note to make from his performance were the 10 strikeouts he got in the fixture.
"I'm always dissatisfied to give up eight hits and four runs, it doesn't matter if I'm facing a Little League team or a Major League team", Wilson said. "I don't care if they're leading the league in batting average, I expect to get them out".
Wilson maintained that he prepares better than anyone in the pitching department in the American League. He affirmed that this is not acceptable to him and he expects to do a lot better than this.
