C. J. Wilson disappointed over bad stint in sixth inning against the Detroit Tigers in Game 5
The Texas Rangers recently took a game defeat on Thursday, October 13, against the Detroit Tigers at the Comerica Park in Detroit in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. The club lost 7 – 5 and with it, the chance to qualify for the World Series
from Detroit. C. J. Wilson was the hurler who took the loss and he was disappointed over his performance in the sixth inning of the game.
The ball thrower went up against Detroit’s best pitcher, Justin Verlander. With a win over the veteran in the first game of the series, Wilson was looking for the second one in Game 5. But a moment of weirdness got the better of his concentration as he lost
out to the ace pitcher at the end of the game.
With the game tied at 2 – 2, Wilson pitched to Ryan Raburn in the bottom sixth. The Detroit outfielder went to first base with a single to the left. Miguel Cabrera came up and he smashed the ball to the left side. Adrian Beltre was ready to collect the ball
for a double play but the ball hit the third base bag and looped over the infielder. Cabrera picked up an RBI double.
The move got the Rangers to a loss but the club still has a chance to win the Series if they win one more game in their possible two encounters.
"Literally a bad bounce," Wilson said of Cabrera's lucky hit to the bag. "But with that said, even with that play, it's 3-2 and we're still in the game. I didn't make the right pitches to get out of the inning in time and that's really all there is to it."
Wilson went on to concede an RBI triple to Victor Martinez and a two-run homer to Delmon Young in the inning. Lady Luck has not picked a side as the Rangers have been aided by rain, over the past few days.
"There's been some weird stuff that has happened in this series," said Wilson. "It's whoever has the rabbit's foot that day or whoever gets the bounce. But we've had some bounces go our way, too, so it's not like it's exclusive to one team or anything like
that."
The Rangers will now play the Tigers at the Rangers Ballpark in Game 6.
