C. J. Wilson joins Los Angeles Angels – MLB Update
Christopher John Wilson has become an easily identifiable feature of baseball, thanks to his phenomenal pitching ability. The American professional baseball player started his career from the Texas Rangers, representing them for over 6 years; from 2005 to
2011.
For many observers, C. J. Wilson’s move to Los Angeles Angels must have come as a surprise. However, the former Texas Rangers starter is genuinely looking forward to establish the evidence of his pitching prowess once the new season begins.
There are many who unquestionably believe that his arrival to the Los Angeles Angels will turn the team into a World Series contender. This claim, in no way, seems an exaggeration considering the strength of the pitcher. Not that he is heavenly endowed with
the magical power to outrival each and every hitter; it is his gusto to work hard that adds to his credentials.
The deal he had with the Los Angeles Angels is said to be for $33.1 million. The Los Angeles squad has all the reason in the world now to be confident of what is lying ahead for the team given the presence of another player, Albert Pujols. The outstandingly
strong slugger will provide the solidified offence that will help the Angels defence.
C. J. Wilson, ever since he started his career back in 2000, remained a top favourite. Take for example his becoming the Most Valuable Player of the Orange Empire Conference. Not only that, he was also awarded the California Junior College Co-Player of the
Year award in the same year, underscoring his adeptness.
From 2001 to 2002, he made further advancement. He moved ahead to become part of the Appalachian League. That helped him elevate to Single-A with the Savannah Sand Gnats and then, he become a part of Double-A Tulsa, which is a part of Texas League.
C. J Wilson formally became the part of the Texas Rangers bullpen in 2005. He was able to present a strong case for his presence in the team with having an ERA of 2.73 ERA in 18 games that he had made his appearance in.
From the reliever’s role, his role changed into that of a starter for the Texas Rangers. He said, “It's hard to be opinionated about a role until the games start. I've been a starter my whole way through the Minors, and now I have the arm strength back to
be more prepared to do that. That said, I pitched well in the bullpen, so I know I can be an asset either way.”
The player indeed has a forward-looking approach. “I may not be where I was last year, but I'm where I need to be. That's a good sign, but it's not about being able to do that once. Last year, I was able to do it for three, four innings. I just haven't been
able to get stretched out yet.”
What remains to be seen is whether he would prefer pitching as a starter or a reliever. He added, “I love relieving. The adrenaline you have as a starter has a chance to wear you out, but as a reliever it helps you.”
What is clearly known, however, is that whatever role he is assigned, he will remain a strong part of the bullpen, giving strength to any team he represents.
